What Happened on That Fateful Day

The best friends were dropped off at 1.35 pm for a walk at a nearby hiking path, the Monon High Bridge over Deer Creek in woodland 2 kilometers out of town, on an unseasonably warm day.

The pick-up time for the girls in the trail car park at 3.15 pm by Libby’s grandfather Mike Patty, her legal guardian, but he did not show up.

Liberty, often known as Libby, used her phone at 2.09 pm to upload a picture of Abby walking on the famed bridge to Snapchat.

Calls to Libby’s cell phone went ignored and then to voicemail.

First, the family started looking. When they were still missing later that day, family members sought assistance from the sheriff’s department.

The search for Libby and Abby resumed on Valentine’s Day morning, 14th February 2017.

As soon as the sun rose, crews expanded their search, moving away from the abandoned train tracks and into wooded regions beneath the bridge and along Deer Creek.

The formal search had only begun when one of the crews made a terrible find.

Libby and Abby’s remains were discovered on the back end of a private piece of property less than one mile from where they had been left off the day before.

The autopsies were conducted the next day, and the two deceased were identified as Abby and Libby. The police provided no other information about how they died, but they did release a photo of a man to the public. The man was not named as a suspect at the time, only someone they wanted to interview because he was observed on the trail with the girls.

The deaths of Abby Williams and Libby German have forever impacted the makeup of Delphi, a little town that is still draped in blue and purple ribbons in their honor. The town of Indiana was named after the ancient Greek metropolis, which was regarded as a sanctuary and the center of the world by those who lived there. The same might be said of Delphi, Indiana, which bills itself as a “wonderful location to live” website.

The Phone Recording of Liberty German

In one of the case’s most odd turns, the girls are reported to have taken film of their would-be attacker before their fateful meeting. A video obtained on German’s phone showed an anonymous man—later identified as a suspect—walking on the Monon High Bridge, just a few feet away from the girls.

The audio of the man telling the two girls, “Guys… down the hill,” was later released by police. Despite the fact that photographs of the man have been widely circulated in the media, he has never been identified.

Police have not revealed how both girls were murdered and the equipment used.

The Police Investigation of Abby Williams and Libby German

Indiana State Police, as early as 15th February 2017, started circulating an image retrieved from Libby’s mobile of an individual reportedly seen on the Monon High Bridge Trail near where the two friends were killed. The blurry picture appears to detect a Caucasian male, hands in pockets, walking on the rail bridge, head down, toward the girls.

The individual in the photos was named the primary suspect in the double homicide a few days later.

On 22nd February, police authorities revealed an audio tape in which the suspect’s voice, albeit muffled, is heard saying, “Down the hill.” During this news conference, officials attributed the audio and imagery to German’s smartphone. She was hailed as a hero for having the foresight and courage to film the exchange discreetly.

Police stated that additional evidence from the phone had been secured but that it would not be released in order not to “jeopardize any future trial.” By this point, the reward in the case had been placed at $41,000.

On 17th July, officers issued a composite sketch of someone who was wanted as a person of primary interest in the murders at the time. It was allegedly drawn by authorities from eyewitnesses to a specific hiker of the Delphi Historic Trails on the day the girls vanished.

The Indiana State Police announced a “new path” in the case on 19th April 2019. Superintendent Doug Carter revealed different materials on behalf of the State Police and the Multi-Agency Taskforce at a press conference on 22nd April.

The additional evidence included a brief video capture of the suspect, dressed in blue jeans and a jacket, strolling down the rail bridge for just over a second. According to Supt. Carter, the suspect, is not walking naturally due to the poor condition of the bridge and the gap between the ties.

Recently an updated sketch of the suspect was also released, as well as an expanded version of the audio recording, in which the suspect’s voice rises slightly as he says the term “Guys…” comes before “Down the hill.”

It was also stated that the previously disclosed sketch of an older man with a goatee and a cap is now regarded as secondary. At the same time, the clean-shaven individual in the newly revised composite is the lead sketch of the key suspect.

Police believe this guy is between 18 and 40 but warned that his “youthful looks” may make him appear younger than his actual age.

According to the paper, the murderer most likely stole a souvenir from the crime scene, and it “looked the girls’ bodies were moved and staged.” The search warrant was redacted and did not explain what was missing, only that the “remain of their apparel was retrieved.” There was no indication of a “brawl or struggle.”

The agent assumed the murderer physically removed anything or took photos of the crime scene to “memorialize the crime scene.” Crime scene investigators also collected unknown fibers and unidentified hairs.

Indiana State Police revealed in December 2021 that they had discovered a fake web profile and are seeking assistance in identifying the person who created it.

According to police, the profile “Anthony shots” appears to have been used on social media applications such as Instagram and Snapchat from 2016 to 2017. The profile purportedly contained images of a well-known male model who is not a subject of interest in the investigation.

However, authorities stated the account belonged to Kegan Anthony Kline, 27, of Peru, Indiana.

Kline, currently in jail, failed a polygraph test when asked about the girls’ deaths.

According to a news article, a police document disclosing unsettling details regarding Kline was unintentionally leaked online. He allegedly informed detectives that he communicated with Libby via the social media account the day she was murdered. He allegedly used his computer to look up “how long does DNA last?”

Kline admitted to investigators that he did not exchange images with Libby but did receive pictures from a friend of hers who was staying at the same sleepover.

Investigators stated in the transcripts that they knew Libby was chatting to Anthony Shots at the sleepover the night before she traveled to the Delphi path with Abby. The account, according to police, is grooming Libby. “Unfortunately,” detectives said in the transcripts, “she was fully enamored with Anthony Shots.”

The transcripts also show that when police asked Kline if he knew who killed Abby Williams and Libby German’s, he failed a polygraph test. He also removed the search history on his phone between 10th February and 15th February 2017.

Kline has not been charged with the murders of the girls and denied participation.

Police believed the suspect was also familiar with the city of Delphi. On 22nd April 2019, Carter stated that he went to the bridge and noticed the ties were eroding. It sways and is not suitable for walking straight. Carter assumed that whoever had been seen up there had previously walked over the bridge.

Search Warrant on Ronald Logan

The search warrant was issued as part of investigators’ efforts to inspect the property of a man named Ronald Logan, whose home is claimed to be only 1,400 feet from where German and Williams’ bodies were discovered.

Logan was never publicly identified as a suspect or charged in the case and died in 2020. However, the search warrant makes it evident that detectives had suspicions about his involvement. According to the records, his voice “was not mismatched with that of the individual in the video.”

It also claims that Logan made up a “factually fraudulent” alibi to explain where he was when the girls went missing and that at least 15 tips from public members implicated Logan in the killings. Cellphone data is also claimed to have placed him near the crime scene when the girls went missing.

According to court filings, the search warrant request was approved, but there were no more details available on what, if anything, detectives collected from Logan’s residence. He died few months back.

Mystery Behind the Investigation of Abby Williams and Libby German

So much remains a mystery. Most importantly, how Abby and Libby died has yet to be revealed to the public. According to the state police spokeswoman, this is because “there is some information regarding this case that we cannot reveal to maintain the integrity of the investigation.”

” Maybe one day, I’ll be able to explain it, and we’ll be able to explain why we held particular positions,” Carter remarked.

Speaking directly to the assassin, he continued, “We have a lot of information about you.
